Mom Boss Monday (Samantha Smith)

Uncategorized Aug 17, 2020

This weekly blog post highlights women who are successfully running their online business while managing a household to #NormalizeTheShitShow that comes with the territory of “doing it all”.

These moms are going to share the messy side of running their biz & raising kids, what a typical day in the life looks like (does this even exist?!), how they deal with mom guilt and SO MUCH MORE!

You're getting a sneak peek into what their life looks like so you don't have to feel bad when you haven't bathed your kids in weeks & they have avocado in their hair as they lay in their crib (guilty 🙋🏼‍♀️).

This week we’re hanging out with Samantha Smith of Amatheia Consulting.

Explain what you do & who you service in your business.

I am a Coach for Virtual Assistants who are wanting to step into feminine energy and truly find the balance in life and business. I also do OBM work and am constantly growing on that as well.

How many kids do you have? What are their ages?

I have two boys ages 5 and 3

What makes you unique as a mom & business owner?

I am not afraid to stand out from the crowd! It's easy to see though especially now that I have blue hair and shaved half my hair off. Honestly, it was so empowering!

I am wildly hyper usually at the WORST times. Like bedtime, I am exhausted but will sit there and laugh and do silly little things to irritate my husband because I can haha. I am usually found outside in some way or another and constantly trying to find a way to hike and see new things. It's truly something I am trying to pass to my boys a true love of nature.

What's the hardest part of running your business and being a mom?

Honestly, it's trying to keep it all together. My boys are well very needy most days especially as quarantine has drug on! So I have found waking up at ungodly hours work the best when I know I have a lot to do. I have found that it helps me on all levels. Also still trying to find out how to get them to stop yelling during calls. Out of nowhere, they feel this ungodly need to scream as soon as zoom kicks on...I'll never understand it!

What is one "messy" thing about being a mom/biz owner that you would never share in public?

That my house can be a total mess most the time I try my best but my boys are wild! That we eat door dash way more than I want to admit because the hubs and I are exhausted by the end of the day. Oh, and when I say we I mean my husband and me lol! We make the boys an easy dinner like mac and cheese or chicken nuggets maybe even a frozen pizza and the husband and I order a meal for us to eat in peace without kids. Its been honestly SO nice!

What does a "typical" day look like for you (I know this doesn't exist but let's pretend).

It usually starts waking up between 5 and 6 so that I can get a little peace and quiet before our day starts. Then its a work out while they wake up usually only lasts like 15 min before they need to start the rounds of breakfast (I have NO IDEA where they put it all). Usually, then I get some client work done for about an hour. I then make the boys go play outside and I play with them and then I finish up most of the work so by 11 we are out the door for two hours for some time out of the house for a walk or whatever we have lined up that day! Then home by 1 or 2 and we have chill time and I finish up work and then my husband is home. I work on whatever is left since he has the boys. Then it's time for dinner bath and boys in bed by 8 pm sharp so mom and dad can have time for ourselves! (most important part of the day! )

Do you ever feel mom guilt?

I do a lot. Some days I get lost in my computer or snap at them. My oldest knows how to poke my buttons very well and loves to push them. Sometimes I feel I am too hard on him as he honestly is so big and looks and acts older than 5. Honestly, I overcome it by lots of snuggles and I apologize and explain that I am just trying to do my best. I also cry sometimes and let those feelings out and talk to the hubs about it all.

What's your favorite thing about being a mom/biz owner?

I love the flexibility that I can just go out in the middle of the day to go do something fun with my kids and never have to tell them no mommy can't be there because of work.

What's ONE piece of advice would you give to other moms in the entrepreneurial space?

To always be flexible and have grace with yourself!
