Mom Boss Monday (Kelly Giannuzzi)

mom boss monday Aug 10, 2020

This weekly blog post highlights women who are successfully running their online business while managing a household to #NormalizeTheShitShow that comes with the territory of “doing it all”.

These moms are going to share the messy side of running their biz & raising kids, what a typical day in the life looks like (does this even exist?!), how they deal with mom guilt and SO MUCH MORE!

You're getting a sneak peek into what their life looks like so you don't have to feel bad when you haven't bathed your kids in weeks & they have avocado in their hair as they lay in their crib (guilty 🙋🏼‍♀️).

This week we’re hanging out with Kelly Giannuzzi of Kelly Elizabeth Virtual Consultant, LLC.

Explain what you do & who you service in your business.

I am a business mentor for new online service providers. I provide clarity and quick action steps about what needs to be done in order to get their business moving in the right direction.

In addition, I help them start or grow their dream business, work on their mindset, overcome challenges with balancing mom life, and take on the WORLD!

How many kids do you have? What are their ages?

I have 3 boys. All aged 3 and under. No, I'm not crazy (I think).

What makes you unique as a mom & business owner?

I am unapologetically myself. I am your biggest supporter - but, in like the best friend way where I'll be completely honest with you too.

What's the hardest part of running your business and being a mom?

The mom guilt! I never feel like I'm doing enough for my children or my business. It's a juggling act that doesn't seem to be getting any easier as their needs (and the needs of my clients) change daily!

What is one "messy" thing about being a mom/biz owner that you would never share in public?

Sometimes the only time you can get work done is when you take your laptop in the bathroom with you. And you lock the door. Because if you don't lock the door, the kids will come in. Yes, even if you're pooping.

What does a "typical" day look like for you (I know this doesn't exist but let's pretend).

I wake up way before my kids (4:30 am), make myself a cup (or two or three) of coffee, and knock out my most important tasks.

I continue working through morning cartoons and breakfast.

Then, we will play for the rest of the morning. I try to schedule calls and other work during "quiet time" (if quiet time even happens).

Finally, we play for the rest of the afternoon and, if I'm lucky, I will check off everything on my to-do list. My daily "To-Do List Completion Rate" is usually around 50%.

Do you ever feel mom guilt?

All the time. I try to determine why I'm feeling guilty. If it's something that I've made up, I try to let it go. If it's something that I can fix (be present with my kids for the rest of the day), then I immediately unplug and fix it. My clients know that family is my top priority. That's why I love working with moms - because they actually get it!

What's your favorite thing about being a mom/biz owner?

Honestly? I feel like a freaking BADASS. I've built something that I can pay off debt with, afford vacations with, can buy my kids cool backpacks with - all while I have toddlers climbing on me and a baby in my arms. Oh, and I started this business when I was SEVEN months pregnant.

What's ONE piece of advice would you give to other moms in the entrepreneurial space?

Stop questioning if you will be successful. Know that you CAN do it. It won't be perfect but it WILL happen if you work for it.

Hang out with Kelly online!
