Mom Boss Monday (Stacey Hooker)

mom boss monday Dec 07, 2020

This weekly blog post highlights women who are successfully running their online business while managing a household to #NormalizeTheShitShow that comes with the territory of “doing it all”.

These moms are going to share the messy side of running their biz & raising kids, what a typical day in the life looks like (does this even exist?!), how they deal with mom guilt and SO MUCH MORE!

You're getting a sneak peek into what their life looks like so you don't have to feel bad when you haven't bathed your kids in weeks & they have avocado in their hair as they lay in their crib (guilty 🙋🏼‍♀️).

This week we’re hanging out with Stacey Hooker of Stacey's Virtual Assistant Services.

Explain what you do & who you service in your business.

Hi! I'm Stacey, your HoneyBook Specialist and Educator!

My main focus is helping service-based business owners build relationships with their ideal clients while also growing their business through automation!

How many kids do you have? What are their ages?

I have four! Their ages are 20, 17, 14, and 7!

What makes you unique as a mom & business owner?

I know how hard it is to juggle ALL THE THINGS! As a mom of 4 (oldest being 20 and youngest being 7) sometimes just parenting all the different age groups is overwhelming.

Earlier this year, I was looking for a way to automate my onboarding process. I was so tired of using 7+ platforms/apps to complete my onboarding process!

I tried just about EVERY CRM out there. When I came across HoneyBook, I was ready to wave my white flag in defeat, but wanted to try one more.

I'm so thankful I did! Within a weekend, I had my CRM set up and ready to go and my entire onboarding process automated. 🙌

Not only did I gain an AMAZING platform to automate my onboarding process, but another revenue stream as well!

I fell HARD for HoneyBook...like high school, first love hard! I joined all of the HoneyBook Facebook groups and started networking.

I couldn't help but brag about this amazing platform while also answering questions I knew the answers to! I also saw the great need for support in this area.

There were so many business owners struggling to figure out their workflows and how to use all of the features. I knew I could help!

So, I created a whole new set of service listings and started putting myself out there. After two weeks, I was fully booked with projects. Not long after that, HoneyBook contacted me and invited me to join their Educator Program!

I'm now in the process of revamping my business by putting away my digital marketing hat and focusing all on HoneyBook services.

I love taking all of the messy pieces of my clients business processes and putting them all together, creating a beautifully automated CRM platform!

This allows them to have a more streamlined, professional client experience, while also giving them more time to enjoy life. Whether working on more income generating tasks or taking a much needed vacation, I know they'll enjoy that extra time either way.

What's the hardest part of running your business and being a mom?

Juggling ALL THE THINGS! I thought it would be easier once they were all in school, then COVID happened!

Luckily, our schools are still in session, but my kids are more active now than ever. Between juggling the household duties (laundry, dishes, dinner, budgeting, etc.) and my workload, sometimes I wonder how it's all going to get done!

However, with the help of my kids (who are all old enough to help 🙌) and my supportive husband, it all manages to get done.

What is one "messy" thing about being a mom/biz owner that you would never share in public?

I tend to wear the same outfit several days (sometimes in a row) before it gets washed! 🙈 This is especially true if I haven't done anything other than sit at my desk and work.

Y'all, I'm too busy making sure my kids and husband have clean clothes to wear to worry too much about my clothes.

But, when the kids start asking, "how many days in a row are you going to wear that shirt?" I know it's time to switch it up! 🤣

What does a "typical" day look like for you (I know this doesn't exist but let's pretend).

6:30 - 8:00 a.m. - Wake up, drink coffee, get kids ready for school and drop them off

8:00 - 9:00 a.m. - Drink another cup of coffee, eat breakfast, and morning devotion

9:00 - 10:30 a.m. - CEO duties: check emails, check projects and follow up as needed, check notifications, make to-do list for the day

10:30 - 12:00 p.m. - Client work

12:00 - 1 p.m. - Lunch - I always take a lunch break, although sometimes it's not always at noon

1:00 - 2:30 p.m. - Wrap up client work; check emails one last time

2:45 p.m. - Pick up boys from school

3:00 - 4:00 p.m. - Homework, taxi kids wherever they need to go

4:00 - 5:00 p.m. - Work or down time with the kids

5:00 - 7:30 p.m. - Cook and eat dinner - we always try to eat as a family around the kitchen table

7:30 - 8:30 p.m. - Family time

8:30 - 9:30 p.m. - Bedtime routine

9:30 - 10:30 p.m. - Time with my husband

11:00 p.m. - Bedtime

Do you ever feel mom guilt?

Not as much as I used to! I've made a HUGE effort to put all of my kids activities in my calendar ASAP so I avoid appointments being booked. Also, being purposeful of our family time each night helps a lot.

My entire family is so supportive and understanding! I also make sure I have some 1:1 time with each of my kids!

What's your favorite thing about being a mom/biz owner?

I love the flexibility working from home has brought. I can work everything around my kids and husband's schedules, which allows me to be more present with them, but also allows my clients to have my undivided attention.

I also love that my kids get to watch me chase my dreams! I want them to know there's no reason to hate going to work every day. This day in age, there's always a way to create a business out of doing what you love to do!

What's ONE piece of advice would you give to other moms in the entrepreneurial space?

AUTOMATE ALL THE THINGS!

Y'all, I was using 7+ platforms and apps to onboard clients, which means it took at least a week due to preparing documents and waiting on emails back and forth.

With my onboarding process (and more) automated, I'm working so much more efficiently, booking twice as many discovery calls with a 90% conversion rate!

My new onboarding record so far is 15 minutes after we ended our discovery call! 🎉 The proposal and contract were signed and payment in full was all made within 15 minutes, thanks to having it all automated!
